Statement on ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, Shaip Kamberi submits request for

Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament, Shaip Kamberi, has announced that today the request for the dismissal of the Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government, Snezhana Paunović, has been officially submitted, following her statements regarding the ethnic cleansing of Albanians in Kosovo.

He announced that the initiative of the parliamentary group Movement of Free Citizens - SDA of Sandzak and the Party for Democratic Action has been supported by 53 other opposition MPs.

Kamberi called on the Serbian Prime Minister to react, emphasizing that keeping Paunović in office would constitute a political and institutional responsibility.

"The Prime Minister has a political and institutional responsibility to react and prove that there is no place in the Government of Serbia for a minister who defends the ideas of expelling people on the basis of their national affiliation and who promotes actions outside the law and judicial procedures," Kamberi writes.

According to him, if Prime Minister Gjuro Macut does not propose the dismissal of the minister, he will be responsible for extending her mandate and for normalizing such a policy within the government.

Kamberi also criticized the minority parties that are part of the Serbian government, saying that they did not support the impeachment initiative.

"Unfortunately, our initiative was not supported by the national minority parties, which are part of the government. So, the dismissal of Minister Paunović was not supported by either Zukorlić's Bosniak party, Lajić's Bosniak party, or Pastor's Hungarian party!", he declared.

We recall that Minister Snezhana Paunovic declared on Serbian television "Kurir" that, if she had had the freedom of action that Slobodan Milosevic had in 1999, she would have "ethnically cleansed Kosovo."

The statement caused strong reactions in Kosovo, the region, and the European Union.

The acting Minister in the Government of Kosovo, Andin Hoti, compared Paunović to former Serbian President Slobodan Milošević, while declaring that any attempt at ethnic cleansing in Kosovo would have the same end as the policies of his regime.

Meanwhile, the Institute for War Crimes (IKKL) also reacted, emphasizing that the minister's statements bring back rhetoric related to policies that led to war, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity in Kosovo.

Meanwhile, the Free Citizens' Movement (PSG) described the statement as hate speech and open support for persecution on ethnic grounds.

According to the PSG, an official who justifies the deportation of people because of their national affiliation cannot exercise a public function in the Government of Serbia, especially when she heads the institution responsible for state administration and ensuring equal treatment of citizens.
