Jovana Radosavljevic, executive director of the new social initiative in Serbia, was on Friday evening invited to "Balkan Talks" where she spoke about the latest developments in the region, mainly about relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
Among other things, Radosavljevic has also made an analysis of how the elections in the USA are expected to affect the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
According to her, if Donald Trump wins, the two countries will return to the dialogue approach they had during his first term, but with some lessons learned. However, she added that there are many unknowns about how this process will continue.
"Of course, there will be two endings. If we have Trump's victory, perhaps we can consider returning to the approach to dialogue that we had during his first term. This also means that we will have Richard Grenell in some kind of agreement with the Western Balkans. So, we can only think of the previous period when Trump was the president of the United States and Grenelli actually pushed for the Washington agreement.
So, without a doubt, the US approach would be different if they decide that the Western Balkans is a priority for the United States in these global changes, and we're seeing it at this point. If we had the continuation of the government of the Democrats, the approach would be more or less the same, but also with some lessons learned.
I think it is very interesting to note how this government in Pristina has managed not to destroy, but to worsen relations with the most trusted partners and allies, including the United States, and with both administrations, the Republican and Democratic. So in that sense, I think there are a lot of unknowns as to how it might evolve going forward, but I think it will also depend on what the next president of the United States or the next department sees as a priority for the United States and where will the Western Balkans be on the list of priorities", said Jovana Radosavljevic.
