Why does Albin Kurti want to interfere in foreign elections?

From a cosmic point of view, Albin Kurti, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, has a very strong desire to "interfere" in elections in third countries. The leader of the VV has not hesitated to oppose Edi Rama in Albania and Donald Trump in the USA, while last year he was part of the election campaign in Switzerland, where a significant number of Albanians from Kosovo live.

Now in 2024, Kurti plans to participate in a pair of elections, in those of North Macedonia. In the neighboring country, Kurti will line up on the side of the Albanian opposition, which is led by Izet Mejit, opposing Ali Ahmet, the long-time chairman of the Democratic Union for Integration.

But why does Kurti like to get involved in the elections of other countries so much?

Albinot Maloku, a well-known political scientist from Kosovo, has two explanations for Kurti's repeated tendency to get involved in elections of foreign countries.

"The direct or indirect involvement of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, now an old practice, in the election processes outside the Republic of Kosovo, has two explanations! That support and empowerment is given to like-minded people with whom he shares old friendship lines, without thinking here how useful it is to choose supporters in the countries where those electoral processes are held, or because of the hubris syndrome that can catch political leaders after a long political commitment." - said Maloku in his answer to Nacional.

While Halil Matoshi, analyst and long-time human rights activist, estimates that Kurti's interference in the elections of North Macedonia is "the worst copy of the trends of Serbian influence in the region".

"The ghost of the romantic nationalisms of the end of the 19th century and the whole of the 20th century is once again hovering in the sky above the Balkans. While the party of Chetniks and Serbian radicals, clothed in the garb of Srpska Napredna Stranka (SNS) has extended its influence in Republika Srpska, through Dodik's party, likewise, SNS camouflaged as Savez Nezavisnih Socialdemokrata, in Kosovo the stage the political party dominated by the Party created by Aleksandar Vučić, named Srpska Lista (SL). Thus, the interference of Albin Kurti's party, first in the electoral body of Albania and now also in that of North Macedonia, is the worst copy of the tendencies of Serbian influence in the region, that is, of a phantasmagoric Serbian world in the Balkans." - Matoshi declared for Nacional.

In his response to Nacional, sociologist Shkodran Ramadani linked Kurti's intervention in North Macedonia with Kurti's "ambition" "to be the all-Albanian leader".

"With this action, Kurt tries to make concrete what he made known a long time ago: the ambition to be the all-Albanian leader, the first of the Albanians in every quarter and corner where they live and act. He aims to be the leader of Kosovars, the diaspora, Albania, the Valley and Albanians in Macedonia. After considering that he has "put Kosovo, the diaspora and the Valley in his pocket", he is heading towards a new destination: Macedonia. He plays with the card of the spirit of change, but as we know in Kosovo, this change is not only positive. "Stagnation" and "regression" are terms that best describe his time at the head of the state." - Ramadan emphasized.

We bear in mind that the parliamentary elections in North Macedonia will be held on May 8, while the Albanian opposition there has come together in a new attempt to dethrone Ahmeti, the former commander of the National Liberation Army. /national
