But, on June 15, the presence of a contingent with more special discipline, the Turkish KFOR, caused a stir.
The vehicles and the colors of the Turkish flag prevailed there for several weeks. One of them will lead all the soldiers of the NATO mission in Kosovo.
According to the security expert, Nuredin Ibishi, the arrival of General Özkan Ulutaş may be a coincidence, but it is quite important and positive for the country.
"What is more important is that they are an extremely dominant force in NATO and in the region and it has its weight. Also, the Turkish contingent have always been dedicated to their duties, but at the same time also contributors to security", said the security expert, Nuredin Ibishi.
However, the former colonel of the Kosovo Security Forces, Afrim Veseli, does not see the change in command as an action that will be able to structurally change the functioning of KFOR.
"This is a routine NATO command change in Kosovo. It does not affect the operationality of KFOR. I will continue to implement the same tasks that other commands have implemented, the Turkish general who has arrived will also implement it", said the former colonel in the FSK, Afrim Veseli.
Since the arrival of KFOR in Kosovo, in 1999, the mission has mainly been led by German and Italian soldiers, while the Turkish general became the 28th commander of the NATO mission in Kosovo.
