The Government of Kosovo has reacted strongly to the decision of Prime Minister Edi Rama to cancel tomorrow's meeting in Gjakovë.
A joint meeting between the two governments was expected to be held on Wednesday, but Rama canceled the meeting on the pretext that the situation in Kosovo does not allow such a thing. He requested a bilateral meeting with Albin Kurti in the presence of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense, focusing on the situation in the north. But Kurti did not accept and insisted that the meeting between the two governments be held as planned. But Rama refused and practically the meeting was cancelled.
The Government of Kosovo, in a presentation to the media, states that the meeting requested by Rama could be held on another day, as it states that it is the first time that such a meeting has been unilaterally cancelled.
" The joint meetings are a great organizational undertaking, preceded by a great deal of work by the ministries to prepare that day. Tomorrow, 13 new agreements would have to be signed. They were intended to bring our economies, our systems of justice, education, culture, etc. closer together. It is the citizens who will lose the most. Unfortunately, Prime Minister Rama's cancellation of the meeting canceled the opportunity to sign them. Bilateral meetings could be held every other day. We are quite close to each other as countries. It wouldn't be the first time we would meet in the same day. But it is the first time that a joint meeting is canceled unilaterally ", says the government of Kosovo.
Rama appeared this evening at a press conference and tried to justify the cancellation of the meeting. But it appears that his reaction came after Kurti's statements at noon, which shot down the draft for the association.
" In the conditions of hourly worsening of Kosovo's relations with the entire Euro-Atlantic community, this meeting cannot be held in the expected format. After I spoke with Borrell, I asked Albini to meet tomorrow in Gjakova with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense to talk about this very situation that is dramatically bringing Kosovo with the Euro-Atlantic municipality to an unimaginable point . he said.
