The British Embassy in Pristina said that the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has not sent QUINT his plan for the extension of the situation in the north, however, during the meeting on June 13, the ambassadors discussed this plan.
Kurti on Tuesday presented a 5-point plan, which he said would help defuse the situation. He said that he sent this plan to the head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, and also presented it to the representatives of the QUINT states.
QUINT includes the United States, Great Britain, Italy, France and Germany.
"Clearly, the new local elections, where the Serbian population of Kosovo would also participate, are a possible solution. However, the position of the United Kingdom continues to be that first steps should be taken to immediately de-escalate the situation, especially the special police units should be removed from the buildings of the municipality of Zveçan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok and that the mayors of these municipalities should continue their work theirs from alternative locations", the British Embassy told Radio Free Europe when asked about their position on the plan presented by Kurti.
The European Union criticized Kurti, saying that so far "he has not taken appropriate steps" to de-escalate the situation.
"Until now, we have not seen any immediate and decisive steps by Prime Minister Kurti. The recent developments in the north of Kosovo only prove that the escalation is continuing and this goes against the interests of Kosovo and all the people in Kosovo", said the EU spokesperson, Peter Stano.
He said that the European bloc is continuing the review of measures against Kosovo, if Prishtina does not take steps to escalate the situation.
On the same day that Kurti announced his plan, the Kosovo Police carried out an action in North Mitrovica. During this action, Millun Millenkovic-Llune was arrested, whom the Minister of the Interior, Xelal Sveçla, has described as "one of the leaders of the criminal formation 'Civil Defense' and the leader of the criminal gangs that over the years have terrorized our citizens".
According to Svecla, he is suspected of having organized the attacks against KFOR members in the north.
