The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, in the meeting of the government held today, has asked the Cadastral Agency of Kosovo to implement the decision of the Constitutional Court, of 2016, for the land of the Monastery of Deçan.
Kurti said that even though the Government of Kosovo does not like the decision, it has no legal means to annul the decision of the Constitutional Court.
The local authorities in Deçan have refused to register 24 hectares of land belonging to the Monastery of Deçan, because they consider that this property belongs to social enterprises "Apiko" and "Iliria" and that it never belonged to the Monastery.
In today's meeting, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that the implementation of the decision of the Constitution is crucial for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe.
Kurti also announced that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla, has sent a verbal note to the Council of Europe.
"On March 22 there is an extraordinary meeting of the community there, from the middle of April there is the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and at the end of May there is the Council of Ministers, in the Council of Europe, which decides on our membership", he said.
The head of the Kosovar executive has said that the Government's attitude towards this decision will not change, but that on the other hand, there is no doubt that Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe "would be not only a historic victory, but also a giant step for the republic towards the recognition of the European five, which enables membership in NATO and the European Union for independent Kosovo".
The decision of the Government of Kosovo was immediately welcomed by the United States of America. In a press conference, after the meeting with President Vjosa Osmani, in Pristina, the American special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, said that "as important and difficult as it was, today's decision on the Monastery was very necessary ".
