The closing arguments in the trial of former KLA leaders continued at the Special Court in The Hague. At this stage, Jakup Krasniqi's defense focused on the Prosecution's claims regarding the detention sites included in the indictment.
Attorney Aidan Ellis stated that the prosecution has not presented evidence linking his client to these locations.
" On Monday we heard from the Prosecution that there were more than 50 places of detention for which charges were raised in the indictment. For most of these places there is no evidence that Jakup Krasniqi visited these places at the specific time or had any knowledge of any crimes that may have been committed there."
"No testimony, no proof has been provided that Mr. Krasniqi has been to these places, including Drenoci, Budakovë, Jeshkovë, Dobrati, Qirezi, Bubelë, Zllashë, Verbani and several places in Prizren, Gllanaselë, Novo Selo e Ulët, Gjilani, Suhareka, Novo Brdo and others ," he said.
According to the defense, the Prosecution has not even explained how it intends to prove such a connection.
" The Prosecution has not even explained how it can prove the connection between the person in question and the visits to the place of detention. Even on Monday when the Prosecution highlighted several other places, this does not mean that Mr. Krasniqi was there ," the lawyer said.
The closing hearings in The Hague are continuing with the presentation of the parties' arguments.
