The 24th session of the constitution of the ninth legislature of the Assembly of Kosovo is expected to continue today at 10:30. However, the Assembly continues to fail to elect a new speaker.
Albulena Haxhiu's candidacy, proposed by the Vetëvendosje Movement, Guxo and Alternativa, is failing to secure the majority of 61 votes needed for election.
Vetëvendosje, Guxo and Alternativa insist that a political agreement is not necessary to elect the Speaker of the Assembly. But representatives of other parties emphasize that without such an agreement, a solution is impossible.
These three political entities are also demanding that the voting be conducted in secret, but this is being opposed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and NISMA. These parties argue that the session has started with open voting and should continue in the same form.
Meanwhile, the AAK parliamentary group is awaiting a decision from the Constitutional Court regarding the validity of the request for a secret ballot, which this party has sent for review.
