The EU special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, together with the US special envoy, Gabriel Escobar, held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, yesterday evening.
From the meeting, it is known that Lajçak and Escobar have presented three requests for the extension of the situation in the north of Kosovo.
Lajcaku said that the meeting with Prime Minister Kurti was difficult, while he added that the demands included the expansion of the situation in the north, elections in the northern municipalities as soon as possible, as well as a return to the dialogue with Serbia.
"Unfortunately, we have returned to Pristina to deal with crisis management instead of violating normalization, which is another good news. We are here to help find a solution to the situation in the north. We presented proposals, three elements: de-escalation of the situation on the ground, new quick elections in the north and return to the normalization dialogue. In a frankly difficult discussion with the prime minister, this is all we can say", said Lajcaku.
The EU's special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, after the meeting he had with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, said that it is in the interest of Kosovo and everyone that in the north there are mayors who have both legitimacy and representation, since according to him, legality does not mean representation and this is the problem the country is facing now.
"Legality does not mean representation and this is the problem we are having at the moment and therefore it is in the interest of Kosovo and everyone to have mayors who have both legality and representation", said Lajçak .
He also spoke about the consequences mentioned for Kosovo regarding the situation in the north. According to him, these consequences are mentioned in a document compiled by the 27 EU member states and is quite serious and weighty, although he did not give any details.
"I have not mentioned the consequences, it was mentioned in the EU 27 declaration, it is a document compiled by the 27 member states, so a really serious and weighty document and I can tell you that the member states are waiting for us to go and to report to them, I will not give any speculation", concludes Lajçak.
