The spokesperson of the EU, Peter Stano, confirmed in a written response to the Telegraph the measures taken by the European bloc against it, due to the non-reaction to the calls to reduce the tensions in the north.
"Unfortunately, Kosovo has not yet taken the necessary steps. Therefore, the EU, as indicated in the statement of the High Representative for foreign policy and security - has decided to implement a series of measures", he said. We have temporarily suspended the work of the bodies of the Stabilization and Association Agreement.
"Kosovo will also not be invited to high-level events and bilateral visits will be suspended, except for those focused on resolving the crisis in the north within the EU-facilitated Dialogue," Stano said, adding that the Programming of funds for Kosovo under IPA 2024 has also been suspended.
The spokesman clarified that these measures are temporary and that Brussels is also monitoring Serbia. In the event that Belgrade does not fulfill the demands addressed to it, then measures will be taken against it as well.
"These measures are temporary and fully reversible depending on the developments on the ground and the decisions regarding the extension of the situation in Kosovo. The EU is also closely monitoring the fulfillment of our demands by Serbia, and is ready to take measures against it as well," said the EU spokesperson, Peter Stano.
The situation in the north of Kosovo has become a serious concern for the EU. "We cannot afford instability, tension and violence. We have condemned the violence and we continue the calls for an immediate ceasefire from both sides", Stano underlined. He reiterated that they expect Kosovo to immediately suspend police operations in the vicinity of municipal buildings in the north of Kosovo and to organize new elections as soon as possible, in which there will be unconditional participation of Serbs there.
