Elections in Kosovo, Petkovic: Internationals have guaranteed that Serbs can go

The Director of the Office for Kosovo in the Serbian Government, Petar Petkovic, said that displaced Serbs will be able to travel by bus to Kosovo to vote in the February 9 parliamentary elections.

"From the international community, Belgrade received a clear and strong guarantee last night that there will be no changes to the existing procedures for the entry of internally displaced Serbs to vote and that they will be enabled to exercise their right to vote without obstacles, without prohibitions and without concerns ," Petkovic said.

He also added that international partners confirmed to Belgrade that their representatives will be present on Sunday, February 9, at the border points between Kosovo and Serbia to ensure the entry of Serbs into Kosovo to vote.

Media in Kosovo reported that buses carrying Serbs who will come to vote will not be allowed entry, unless they are part of regular routes or if they request permission from the relevant institutions, and only carriers with registered routes for international transport will be allowed to enter.

On this issue, Radio Free Europe has contacted the Kosovo Ministry of Infrastructure and the Kosovo Police, but has not yet received a response.

The Serbian state is committed to organizing the voting of Serbs displaced from Kosovo in Serbia for the February 9 elections.

The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, a state organization in this country, has also been involved in this process. On January 17, this commissariat called on Serbs to vote in the elections and informed them that transportation to the polling stations would be organized for all interested parties.

Meanwhile, on January 21, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), which holds power in Serbia, publicly supported the Serbian List in the upcoming elections in Kosovo and called for a vote for it.

Kosovo holds regular parliamentary elections on February 9, and over 2 million voters inside and outside the country are eligible to vote. There are 28 political entities and one independent candidate competing for the new parliamentary composition./ REL
