One of the classic films of the '90s, "My Best Friend's Wedding" will continue.
The original film, starring Cameron Diaz and Julia Roberts, was a hit when it first came out in 1997. It is now considered one of the icons of its genre.
Roberts and Dermot Mulroney played Julianne and Michael, close friends who made a pact that if they were still single when they turned 28, they would get married.
When Mulroney's character gets engaged to another woman played by Diaz, Roberts has just four days to stop the wedding.
Director Celine Song, who was nominated for an Oscar for the film "Past Lives," has been hired by Sony to write the sequel to the film.
The official news comes after Mulroney's recent interview, in which he told the New York Post that "talks are underway about moving forward."
"I don't know anything. I recently heard, open quotes, the lawyers were talking, close quotes," he said.
In addition to "My Best Friend's Wedding," sequels to classics like "Bend It Like Beckham" and "Devil Wears Prada" are also being made.
