Diddy has won a civil lawsuit, while he remains in custody awaiting sentencing in his federal trial. According to TMZ, a New York judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a man who alleged that the music producer drugged and assaulted him at a Los Angeles nightclub in 2015. The case was filed in February, with the plaintiff, a then-23-year-old up-and-coming artist, claiming he passed out after being offered a drink and was awakened by “unwanted sexual contact” by Diddy.
He also claimed that the businessman threatened to ruin his career if he reacted. However, the judge ruled that the lawsuit was filed out of time, as the statute of limitations for such cases at the time was five years.
Despite a new 2019 law extending the statute of limitations to 20 years, the provision is not retroactive. Lawsuits against Bad Boy Entertainment and Combs Enterprises were also dismissed.
The move comes as Diddy has seen other civil cases against him dismissed, while dozens of appeals remain active. His sentencing in federal court is expected on October 3, when he will be finally acquitted.
