The star of the catwalks, Naomi Campbell, has 'opened her heart' by confessing not very pleasant episodes about her life.
Although she has flourished in the world of fashion, her personal life has been difficult, starting as a child, when her father abandoned her and her mother.
Naomi has spoken without gloves on the series "The Super Models", revealing that she took cocaine during the 90s, to cope with childhood traumas and then the death of her close friend, Gianni Versace.
"I think when I started using it, the thing I wanted to hide was the pain. You think addiction will heal your wound, but it doesn't. It can cause you a lot of fear and anxiety. So, I got very irritated"
The murder of Gianni Versace on the doorstep of the house in Miami Beach in 1997, was a fatal shock for Naomi.
"He motivated me to go out and go further when I thought I couldn't do it, so when he died, the pain got really bad."
The model battled addiction for 5 years until she passed out on a photo shoot in 1999.
"When you try to cover something, your feelings...I tried to hide the abandonment. You can't cover it up. I was killing myself, it was so hurtful. It took me many years to deal with it" - said Naomi, who found the solution by going to rehabilitation.
Such 'addiction' episodes recur from time to time, but now she knows how to control them.
