This news outraged her admirers, as this Spanish-style house, 270 square meters on one floor, with a garden and swimming pool at the back, was where the actress spent the last years of her life and where she was found dead on August 5, 1962.
But the Los Angeles City Council recently voted to begin a process to designate the former home of actress Marilyn Monroe a historic and cultural landmark, blocking plans to demolish it.
By a vote of 12 to none, the city's Board of Building and Safety Commissioners immediately revoked the demolition permit that had been issued the day before.
The City Council's own motion also prohibits major changes to the property while a review of its potential status as a landmark is underway.
The house, which has remained largely unchanged, last sold a month ago for $8.4 million.
