Who would have thought of that?! Hollywood actor talks about psychological

Renowned American actor and comedian, Eddie Murphy, has spoken publicly for the first time about his experience with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), in the new Netflix documentary, "Being Eddie."

The 64-year-old star reveals that he had noticed the symptoms since he was a child, but at the time he didn't know what he was experiencing. "When I was little, I would check the stove several times a night to make sure the gas was off. I thought I was doing strange things, but I didn't know why," Murphy says.

He adds that no one in his family understood the situation. "My mother didn't know. I would even make strange noises when I was watching TV and I couldn't explain it."

He first realized what he had when he saw a news report about OCD as a teenager. “I said to myself, ‘This is what I have.’ But then I thought, ‘No, I don’t want to have a mental illness,’ and I tried to stop it,” the actor recalls.

According to the Mayo Clinic, OCD is characterized by unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviors that cause constant anxiety and worry.

Murphy admits that the symptoms haven't completely disappeared: "I still check the stove every night, but if I do it more than once, I tell myself to stop."

The documentary “Being Eddie” is a candid portrait of Murphy’s life — from his childhood in New York to the global fame that made him one of Hollywood’s most beloved comedians. It’s now available on Netflix.
