A 26-year-old Belarusian woman has fallen victim to a deadly scam after being convinced to go to Thailand to work as a model, ending up in Myanmar where she was killed with the intention of having her organs harvested and sold on the "black market".
Vera Kravtsova's tragic adventure began when she traveled to Bangkok after being promised a job as a model.
According to Mash, "instead of photo shoots and contracts, Vera was taken across the border to Myanmar, where she was held captive. There, she was asked to be beautiful and blackmail wealthy clients for money. But when she stopped earning money, contact with her was lost."
Vera, who was born in Minsk, had previously traveled to Vietnam, China, and Indonesia.
According to the same source, the scammers contacted the 26-year-old's family and demanded $500,000 to return her body. This was followed by a phone call from unknown persons to the 26-year-old's relatives, who were told that the woman "had been sold for her organs and that her body had been burned."
Vera, who was born in Minsk, Belarus, had moved to St Petersburg, Russia, and had previously traveled to Vietnam, China and Indonesia, but disappeared after arriving in Bangkok in early September.
