Journalist Elton Tozaj shocked with his story in the "Living Day" studio on Vizion Plus.
Tozaj has revealed for the first time in public that at a young age he was abused for 7 years by a "neighborhood bully" with whom he lived in the same building.
A dramatic story, where for the first time in the presence of his mother, the moderator, the cameras and the Albanian public, Elton Tozaj spoke about one of the biggest dramas of his life.
He emphasized that this drama negatively affected his life for many years, driving him into a dead end, where he often consumed alcohol and narcotics, as only there could he find some peace.
But even more difficult was his confession when he revealed that he had often thought about ending his life.
Excerpts from the conversation:
Elton Tozaj: Outside the walls of the house I was not so happy. I was a sociable, loving child, this led to me being a victim of abuse for 7 consecutive years when I was little. I found myself protected only by my mom, dad, brother, cousins. I didn't know what it was, I didn't know what I had been through. But it is something that I have suffered a lot. There are nights that I don't sleep, because there are scenes in my head that I remember from that time.
Brunilda Lahe: What you just made is a very strong statement. Moreover, this statement comes from your mother. You said that you were abused for 7 years.
Elton Tozaj: If there is one person who has helped me, even when I tried to end my life, it is my mother. That is why I say that I am proud and will be by her side. There are times when she tells me that 'tomorrow, the day after tomorrow I will not be here'. I will never let my mother go before me.
Ermira (Elton's mother): I say it time and time again, This scares me.
Brunilda Lahe: How did you learn, Mrs. Ermira?
Elton Tozaj: I have the impression that my mother knew, but she didn't tell me. She once told me that 'I've always understood them'.
Brunilda Lahe: So mom understood when it was over?
Elton Tozaj: He realized it too late.
Brunilda Lahe: Did you save yourself?
Elton Tozaj: No, the person who did this died in 1997. He was a strongman in the neighborhood.
Brunilda Lahe: Person in the neighborhood?
Elton Tozaj: Yes, the neighbor on the fourth floor.
Brunilda Lahe: Where did the abuse take place?
Elton Tozaj: My dad's friends were teachers and they used to go for bike rides. And one of these occasions was 'let me go for a ride with Toni'. Then there was daily psychological violence, as he was only 2 floors above us. I have the impression that it was God who took him away.
Brunilda Lahe: You didn't find the strength to tell it for 7 years?
Elton Tozaj: I was very scared. I thought I had committed the biggest crime of my life. We were very ignorant at that time. We had no information.
Brunilda Lahe: Did you tell the man at that time?
Elton Tozaj: No, never! I spoke about it too late. I'm taking this opportunity to tell Dori, Xhuli, Ardi, my best friend. I never told my family, even though they understood what I had been through.
Brunilda Lahe: Did they understand it years later?
Elton Tozaj: They understood. Maybe they knew, but they didn't believe it, or they didn't understand it. But when I exploded 4 years ago, my dad had already died, after 2-3 weeks. This then adds to the rest that happened to me with the portal work. I ended up being a regular consumer of alcohol and narcotics.
Brunilda Lahe: In recent years?
Elton Tozaj: Yes, it became a way of life for me, I thought everything was over, I thought that this was my life. I often went so far as to end my life. I find the time to apologize to my mother, for everything she has gone through, for the sacrifice she has made. For me, she is an iron woman, strong.
