Lebanon bans the broadcast of the movie 'Barbie': it promotes

Lebanon's Ministry of Culture decided to ban the movie "Barbie" from cinemas, saying it "promotes homosexuality and goes against religious values".

Minister Mohammad Mortada said the film was found to "promote homosexuality and sexual transformation" and "oppose the values of faith and morality" by diminishing the importance of the family unit.

Lebanon was the first Arab country to hold gay pride week in 2017 and is generally seen as a safe haven for the LGBT community in the largely conservative Middle East.

But the issue has come into sharper focus recently, fueling tensions. Mawlawi last year made a decision to ban events that "promote sexual perversion" in Lebanon, understood to refer to LGBT-friendly gatherings.

Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, the film sends Mattel Inc's doll on a real-world adventure. The film has crossed $1 billion in box office ticket sales worldwide since its July 21 debut.
