The famous British singer, Lily Allen, was once again put in the spotlight with the statements she made regarding an issue she had raised in 2022, regarding abortion.
At the time, Allen had stated that “women don’t need to justify” their choice to have an abortion if they simply don’t want to have a child. This time, however, she stated that she “can’t even remember how many abortions I had by the time I was 23.”
Lily had caused a sensation in 2022 when she took to the Glastonbury stage with Olivia Rodrigo and sang "Fuck You", dedicating the song to the members of the United States Supreme Court, who had just overturned the historic Roe v. Wade decision, depriving women of the constitutional right to abortion.
After that appearance, Lily Allen wrote on her Instagram profile:
"I wish you would stop posting examples of strong reasons why someone should have an abortion. Most people I know, myself included, just didn't want a damn child. Enough! We don't have to justify it."
In a recent episode of her podcast "Miss Me?", the 40-year-old singer revealed more about her experiences with abortions, even saying she doesn't remember how many she had in total before getting an IUD at age 23.
Speaking to her friend and presenter, Mikita Oliver, she said:
"Before I had an IUD, it was a disaster. I was always pregnant. I don't remember exactly how many abortions I had, maybe four or five."
In fact, she joked while singing the tune of Frank Sinatra's "My Way": "I've had a few abortions, but on the other hand, I don't remember exactly how many."
Mikita admitted to having had about five more abortions, saying: "I was ashamed to say I had more than one abortion. Why be ashamed? I had a few and that was it."
Lily Allen then took the opportunity to underscore her message once again.
"It annoys me to see memes on social media with 'special reasons' for abortion, like 'if it went all the way, it would die' or 'there was a serious abnormality'. Just say, 'I don't want a damn baby right now.' That's enough."
Lily Allen is now a mother to two daughters: Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 11, with her ex-husband, Sam Cooper. Meanwhile, Mikita remains childless and has openly stated that she is not sure if she wants to become a mother in the future.
