Arrested for violence against his girlfriend, journalist reacts after two days

After two days in prison, journalist Valon Syla has reacted publicly for the first time regarding his arrest, which raised much controversy and stirred up the internet.

In a long Facebook status, Syla attempts to clarify that the incident is not about "violence" in the classic sense of the word, but about a "debate" and "arm raising", for which he publicly apologizes, in particular to his girlfriend, her mother, and the respective families.

"My girlfriend is too beautiful and special for me to be violent. This case is not about punches and kicks... but about an arm raise," Syla writes, calling his arrest a result of political pressure that came after the public involvement of Justice Minister Albulena Haxhiu.

"After 5 hours of being released, the police took me back to the station. Nothing new had happened. It was simply political pressure. My girlfriend did not ask for this measure, nor did she agree with it," he emphasizes, alluding to a direct intervention by the government in private cases.

Syla goes even further, saying that he was publicly lynched without any indictments or legal proceedings. “I was lynched like a violent monster… even love is going to take us to prison.”

He considers it unfair that he was arrested for "domestic violence," saying that he does not live with his girlfriend and has no family relationship in the legal sense.

In the end, he says he believes in justice and warns that he will speak in detail "in the coming days on TV," while not hesitating to make fun of the public:

"I didn't beat anyone in elementary or high school... but if you don't believe me, call me when you have problems with women - I'll help you out, you'll get the hang of it," concludes Valon Syla.
