Laid-off Twitter employees accuse the company of failing to compensate them

Former Twitter employees in Africa who were fired allege the company has yet to give them promised compensation. Billionaire Elon Musk bought Twitter in October 2022 and began a series of layoffs that affected thousands of workers.

In November, the company laid off almost all of its staff in Ghana, its only location in Africa. Workers fired from Twitter's Ghana office have yet to receive compensation, despite being fired seven months ago.

According to CNN, the former employees accepted Twitter's offer to pay them three months of severance, the cost of repatriating foreign staff and legal fees incurred during negotiations with the company, but they have not received the money and no one has contacted

"They literally disappeared off the face of the earth," a former Twitter Africa employee told CNN.

"Although Twitter eventually relocated the former staff to other countries, the Africa staff were still left to fend for themselves, despite the fact that we ultimately agreed to specific terms of the negotiations."

Carla Olympio, an attorney representing the former employees, told CNN that the last contact from Twitter was in May, after the settlement was reached. A spokesman for Ghana's Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations told CNN it is investigating the allegations.

On the other hand, Musk has not yet commented on these accusations.
