An international team of researchers has received authorization from Turkish authorities to begin excavations in the Durupinar geological formation, in eastern Turkey, where some researchers believe the remains of Noah's Ark may be found.

The Noah's Ark Scans team, made up of researchers, geophysicists and archaeologists from Turkey and other countries, will use advanced non-destructive geophysical methods to analyze the 164-meter-long structure, which is located about 30 kilometers south of Mount Ararat. The goal is to identify and map underground anomalies.

Team members hope the research will yield new evidence to support the theory that the structure may be connected to the Ark described in the Bible.

According to researchers, the formation's dimensions match the dimensions of Noah's Ark described in the Book of Genesis. In biblical texts, the Ark is described as being about 156 meters long, 26 meters wide, and 15 meters high.

The Durupinar Formation first caught the attention of researchers in 1948, when heavy rainfall revealed a ship-shaped structure. Subsequent aerial photographs and scans have fueled debate over its origins.

However, part of the scientific community remains skeptical. Critics argue that it is a natural rock formation, unrelated to any man-made structure.

On the other hand, the head of the research, Andrew Jones, has stated that some unusual features discovered during preliminary analyses suggest that a man-made structure may exist beneath the surface.

Lauren Witzke, a member of the Noah's Ark Scans team, described the project as an effort aimed at verifying one of the most popular accounts of biblical tradition.

Excavations are expected to begin later this year, and their results could shed more light on a debate that has been going on for decades.
