Albanian boxer Florian Marku was arrested in Germany. The 32-year-old man was traveling from England to Germany on December 9, when at the border entrance, he was notified of an arrest warrant by the Greek state. It is about an issue from many years ago, when Florian Marku was 18 years old. At that time, due to a fight in Thessaloniki, he was arrested on charges of wounding and possession of weapons without a permit. Then the boxer was sentenced to 7 years in prison, but he served only 1 and a half years.
However, a few years ago the case was appealed and according to recent changes in Greek law, he must serve at least 1/3 of the sentence. Florian Marku is currently in custody in Germany, awaiting extradition to Greece. The file preparation procedure takes time and can take up to 1 month, so the extradition can happen in the first days of 2025. The defense has been told that Florian Marku must serve the remainder of the sentence and the boxer himself has accepted it that. Sources close to the 32-year-old's family say that Mark must serve about 6 months in prison to call the case closed.
