Turkish actor Can Yaman, who was arrested in Turkey as part of an investigation into drug trafficking and consumption among celebrities, journalists and VIPs in Istanbul, has been released.
The news was reported by Turkish media, quoting "Corriere della Sera".
Yaman, well known in Italy for his role as Sandokan and in several successful television series, was arrested along with six other people, including actress Selen Gorguzel, overnight in a drug operation in Istanbul that raided nine nightclubs.
The investigation was conducted by the Smuggling, Narcotics and Economic Crimes Investigation Bureau of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
In recent weeks, as part of the same investigation, more than 20 entertainment personalities, VIPs and journalists were arrested by police.
Yaman, along with other arrested individuals, including club owners, were taken to the Istanbul Institute of Forensic Medicine to be tested for possible drug use.
The investigation was conducted by the Smuggling, Drug Trafficking and Economic Crimes Investigation Bureau of the Istanbul General Prosecutor's Office.
During the operation, law enforcement conducted overnight raids on nine nightclubs in the city, leading to the arrest of several drug dealers and the manager of the clubs where drugs were allegedly distributed.
The investigation, which had been ongoing for weeks, had already led to the identification of over twenty VIPs, celebrities and journalists, who had been placed under surveillance as part of the same investigation.
