Three months ago he had crowned their marriage, but also the priest of Brignoles, in France, had an erotic story with the bride.
The story became public last Sunday when the priests learned that Don Gerson Peres, the protagonist of the story, had to leave the leadership of the church of Saint-Sauveur due to involvement in adultery.
The couple got married in the church after 17 years of cohabitation and the husband was shocked.
He told French newspapers: “I am a very religious person, I even have a tattoo of the Virgin Mary on my left forearm. I lived with my wife for 17 years. We raised two children together. I got married in church three months ago. I wouldn't have imagined what happened."
"Father Gerson left the parish of Brignole on Friday August 23. He presented me with the resignation which I accepted. He lived in flagrant opposition to his commitments, especially that of celibacy," read the letter to parishioners from Monsignor Touvet, co-bishop of Fréjus-Toulon.
"Father Gerson had an inappropriate relationship with an adult woman who was married. I found out a few days ago. It was a real shock," the letter said.
Don Gerson Peres has been removed from the local community, but only the Vatican can decide on his role in the church. "The church is merciful, but the preservation of the priest's status is not decided at the diocesan level. It is up to Rome to decide", assure the French diocese.
