It's been almost a year since iconic designer Sarah Burton announced she was stepping down from her role as creative director of Alexander McQueen, and since then, the fashion world has been speculating about what her next move would be.
The rumors have come to an end as Givenchy announced on Monday that she is joining the French luxury brand as creative director.
The 50-year-old British woman became best known as the designer of Princess Catherine's wedding dress, as she worked at McQueen for more than a decade after the fashion house's founder committed suicide.
There he designed clothes for a host of world stars including actress Cate Blanchett and singer Lady Gaga. Burton was also included in the American Time magazine's list of "100 most influential people in the world" in 2012.
In a statement, the designer said she was enthusiastic about the new job and would bring her vision and convictions to Givenchy, where she will be responsible for all women's and men's collections.
The first show is scheduled for March next year, according to the brand's announcement. The creative director job had been vacant since January following the departure of American Matthew William, who wanted to focus on his clothing brand.
