A tragic accident occurred in Piedmont, California, when Krista Michelle Tsukahara, a 19-year-old college student, was killed in a Tesla Cybertruck crash. She was one of three passengers who died after the vehicle crashed into a tree at high speed in November 2024. Krista's parents have now filed a lawsuit against the vehicle's manufacturer, Tesla, alleging that the company knew about a design flaw that left the girl trapped inside the vehicle when it burst into flames.
Krista was with three friends, while Soren Dixon, 19, was driving the vehicle, along with Jack Nelson and Jordan Miller. Krista, Soren and Jack died in the crash, while Jordan survived the accident with the help of witnesses. Krista's parents, Carl and Noelle Tsukahara, have updated their lawsuit, arguing that Krista suffered minor initial injuries but died from burns and smoke inhalation when the Cybertruck's battery exploded.
The lawsuit alleges that the vehicle's doors may have malfunctioned after the power outages and that Krista was unable to escape due to difficulty finding the manual door release. According to the family's attorney, Roger Dreyer, the incident illustrates a design flaw in the vehicle, noting that there was no emergency system that would have allowed the person to easily exit.
Krista's father expressed his grief and demanded accountability from Tesla, noting that his daughter's life could have been saved with a safer design. He expressed concern about the silence regarding the safety of such vehicles, asking how an unsafe car could be sold.
A preliminary investigation by police concluded that excessive speed, drug and alcohol consumption by Soren Dixon were the main factors that caused the accident.
