Virgina Giuffre accused of being part of the 'Epstein list', emails

London's Metropolitan Police are "intensively" investigating claims that Prince Andrew ordered his security guard to gather personal information about accuser Virginia Giuffre.

According to the leaked emails, Prince Andrew allegedly gave his bodyguard Giuffre's date of birth and social security number, similar to the National Insurance number in Britain.

David Davies, the former head of Scotland Yard's Royal Protection Command, said: "The team that protected him should be interviewed, and the truth should come out once and for all. These allegations are yet another reason why the authorities must do their job properly."

Trying to find 'sins'

The emails also show that Andrew involved one of the late queen's aides in efforts to find information against Virginia Giuffre. He himself admits it was "possible" he was photographed with her, although in his famous 2019 Newsnight interview he declared: "I don't recall ever meeting her."

The accuser's family said the revelations "showed the lengths to which those involved will go to discredit and slander the victims." They added: "The truth will come out and there will be no dark places to hide."

Context of the investigations

According to emails published by the Mail on Sunday, on February 26, 2011, the day before the publication of the photo of Andrew with Virginia, he wrote to communications chief Ed Perkins suggesting an investigation into it.

The email states: "She appears to have a criminal record in the US. I have provided her date of birth and social security number for investigation to the PPO on duty."

He also wrote to the Queen's deputy press secretary that he had spoken to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, who he claimed was a "liar." On the day the photo was published, Epstein emailed Andrew saying: "I will be getting a statement from the judge on another Virginia charge showing she has no credibility."

It has not been suggested that the bodyguard acted on Andrew's orders, and it is not clear how Andrew obtained Giuffre's social security number, or whether it was given to him by Epstein or Maxwell.

David Davies stressed: "Based on the email sent to the deputy press secretary, which appears authentic, there is sufficient evidence that the Metropolitan Police or any other force should investigate the circumstances."
