"Vulcan" is Amazon's most advanced robot, with sensors that give it the sense of touch and the ability to replace humans in most logistical tasks.
Amazon has just launched its most powerful and sophisticated robot yet: Vulcan. This robot is designed to revolutionize warehouses and the supply chain by using artificial intelligence and the sense of touch to accurately handle up to 75% of the products that pass through Amazon's warehouses every day.
Equipped with advanced sensors in its joints and a robotic arm built to reach into any corner of a shelf, Vulcan not only sees, but “feels” objects, to grasp and process them with uncanny precision. The technology behind it combines AI, tactical sensors, and machine learning, allowing the robot to work almost autonomously in a variety of logistics environments.
Currently operating in two major hubs: Hamburg (Germany) and Spokane (USA), and Amazon is planning its global expansion. This robot is expected to drastically cut operating costs and replace the most laborious tasks previously performed by physical workers.
But what about humans? According to Amazon, Vulcan is not built to replace employees, but to relieve them of repetitive and tedious tasks. However, there is no shortage of criticism; many experts call this the beginning of a silent shift of the workforce towards machines.
