Radovan Çurçiç believes that tomorrow's match against Albania will be more important than the one when he led the Serbian national team to a victory at the "Elbasan Arena" against the Rossoneri. Çurçiç was in charge of Serbia in the match played in 2015 in our country, when the visiting team won 2-0.
Invited to the show "SportSKidan", he recalled the challenge from 10 years ago and compared it to the one that will be played in Leskovac.
" I think they are quite similar. In terms of importance in the competition, this match is much more significant and important than that match then, for the simple fact that we had lost all chances of qualifying for the European Championship for well-known reasons and that match played in Belgrade which we lost on the table and we were stripped of the three points. So we had no chance before the match in Elbasan. However, it was a prestige match, the pressure was very great and for us it meant a lot for the future to win it.
We emerged victorious from a negative public image of the Serbian national team. I think that match changed a lot of things and things improved because of it. This match is very important, as a win can keep us in the race for qualification. Maybe the pressure itself is as great as it was then. In my opinion, not so much, but it is definitely in the hands of the players and can significantly affect what they will show on the field of play , ”said Çurčič.
According to him, the team had problems to solve in this challenge due to the absence of Lukic and Milenkovic.
" There are two important players, especially Milenkovic, as I expect a match where Serbia will be dominant in possession. And I expect the preparation of the Albanian team to be with reactions to the balls won and to attack the isolated defense of Serbia. Milenkovic is a very important player in this aspect and the coach will have to find an alternative. So I say that Serbia is very weakened before this match. I expect them to be replaced with motivation and energy ", emphasized the former coach of Serbia.
