Rute Cardoso, the widow of Portuguese footballer Diogo Zhota, has shared a touching video from their wedding day to commemorate the anniversary of the coronation of their love.
The couple had been together since their teens, having met at the age of 15. They married on June 22, 2025, in a ceremony in Porto and were the parents of three children.
However, their happiness was tragically cut short less than two weeks after the wedding, when Diogo Zhota and his brother, Andre Silva, died in a car accident on July 3.
On Monday evening, Cardoso published a video on Instagram about 20 seconds long, showing moments from the wedding day, celebrations with family and friends, as well as part of the speech that Zhota gave during the ceremony.
In his message to his wife, the footballer said:
“ Wherever the future takes us, there’s probably someone here who knows better than I do. But the truth is, I don’t know, and it doesn’t really matter to me, as long as I’m with you. I love you forever .”

The memory of the Portuguese striker continues to remain alive even as a year approaches since his tragic passing.
At the World Cup, Portugal coach Roberto Martinez has included Zhota as an honorary member of the squad, while Portuguese footballers wear bracelets to honor the former Liverpool player.
The Portuguese Football Federation also invited Zhota's parents, Isabel and Joaquim Silva, to closely follow Portugal's opening match against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Houston.
During the performance of the national anthem, an image of Diogo Zhota appeared on the stadium screens, a moment that deeply touched his parents and the fans present.
