The 2026 World Cup is taking shape, as a large number of national teams from all confederations have mathematically secured their ticket to the most prestigious football tournament.
With the new format and expansion to 48 teams, the competition has been tougher, but some of the traditional powers and pleasant surprises have sealed their participation.
Asia – Expected dominance and new names
The Asian continent has produced eight qualifiers:
Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Uzbekistan.
Giants like Japan and South Korea secured qualification without much difficulty, while the biggest surprise remains Jordan, which is experiencing the golden period of its football.
CONCACAF – The usual trio
From North and Central America, the three host teams of the World Cup have accomplished their mission:
the USA, Canada and Mexico.
All three will aim to use their home-field advantage for a historic performance.
Africa – Confirmations and returns
Africa is presented with a very competitive and balanced group:
Algeria, Cape Verde, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.
Morocco, semi-finalists in Qatar 2022, goes to the World Cup with the status of a major force, while Cape Verde is one of the most beautiful stories of the qualifications.
South America – Elite without shortages
As usual, South America brings the biggest names:
Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Uruguay.
World champions Argentina and Brazil will once again be serious contenders, while Paraguay returns to the big stage after years of absence.
Oceania – An unchanging dominance
From Oceania, the only confirmed qualifier is:
New Zealand, which remains undefeated in the region and is finally looking to advance to the next stage of the World Cup.
Europe – Full of class and competition
The old continent brings an incredible list of teams:
Austria, Belgium, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain and Switzerland.
All the elite European national teams will be present, with Norway returning to a World Cup thanks to a new generation led by world-class players. The surprise of the evening was of course Scotland's dramatic qualification in the last match, "stealing" the ticket from Denmark.
With these qualified teams, the 2026 World Cup promises spectacle, rivalry and new history in international football. Hopes are high that Albania and Kosovo will join this puzzle, through the "play off" phase that will take place in March./Panoramasport
