The World Cup of records, goals, spectacle, speed and millions of fans in the
World Cup

This World Cup is going down in history not only for the emotions on the pitch, but also for the many records that were set during the tournament. The many goals, the high pace of the game, the speed of the players, the packed stadiums and the incredible impact on social media have made this edition one of the most spectacular ever.

For the first time in the history of the World Cup finals, three players have scored at least seven goals. Lionel Messi leads the list with eight, while Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland follow with seven goals each.

Mbappe also holds the speed record in this tournament, having been recorded running at 37.6 kilometers per hour, a figure that on many roads would be enough to get a speeding ticket.

Another important record belongs to Senegalese striker Pape Geje, who scored the fastest goal of the World Cup. In the match against Iraq, the ball was sent into the net at a speed of 131.94 kilometers per hour.

Belgian Timothée Castagne has covered the longest distance in a single match, a full 16.29 kilometers. Meanwhile, his compatriot Yuri Thielemans leads the standings for total distance covered during the championship, with 61.8 kilometers, becoming the "marathon champion" of this World Cup.

A total of 280 goals have been scored so far, an average of 2.92 goals per match. Lionel Messi has reached the 21-goal mark in his World Cup career, while Kylian Mbappe holds the record for most goals scored in the knockout stage, with 11.

The stands have also been packed, despite the high ticket prices. Up to this stage of the tournament, matches have been watched by around 6.26 million fans, with an average of more than 65,000 spectators per match.

However, the historical record still belongs to the 1994 World Cup in the United States of America, where the average was around 69,000 fans per match.

The success of this World Cup has also been reflected on digital platforms. FIFA's social media platforms have recorded over 20 billion views of videos published during the tournament, a record figure that significantly exceeds any previous edition.
