Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the people absent from the farewell ceremony for Diogo Jota and his brother Andre, who lost their lives as a result of a car accident.
This caused numerous reactions, including criticism of the 40-year-old, who according to reports is on vacation with his family in Majorca.
A few hours after this was noticed, it was Ronaldo himself who reacted regarding his friend's absence from this farewell ceremony, claiming that he was not present due to his popularity, and this would cause incidents.
"Ronaldo chose not to attend the ceremony in Gondomar, Portugal, due to his status as a global star. He decided that it could be more harmful than helpful for him to be there, as it would attract excessive attention at a time when the family is in mourning ," state the Lusitanian media.
Ronaldo is said to have further communicated with Jota's family, parents and wife, informing them of the reason for his absence and offering his support.
Diogo Jota lost his life as a result of an accident in Zamora, Spain, where his car burst into flames after the collision, while his brother Andre Silva, a Penafiel footballer, was also with him.
