Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala looks set to be sidelined for another long period after suffering a serious ankle injury in the 2-0 defeat to Paris St-Germain in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup.
This was Musiala's first starting match in several months, as he had been recovering from a thigh injury since early April that had kept him out of action until the end of Bayern's Bundesliga season.
At the end of an entertaining but goalless first half at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Musiala was tackled by PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma while following a Michael Olise pass that was hit over the sideline.
According to BILD, Musiala has broken his left fibula and damaged several ligaments. He is likely to be out for four to five months.
Musiala has joined the team and they will fly from Orlando to Munich.
"He had to go to hospital," Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said after the match.
Kompany added in his press conference that "I've rarely been so angry in the first half, not against my players."
"There are a lot of things in life that are much more important than this, but at the end of the day, for these guys, it's their life. He came back from a setback, and then it happens the way it happens and you feel helpless."

"I understand that this is football, but the fact that it happened to someone who, for example, really enjoys the game, is also very important for us," said the Bayern Munich coach.
German football expert Raphael Honigstein said that "the Bayern Munich players were visibly shaken and you could see that it probably took them a while, when they came out of the first half, to readjust and find their concentration again."
"He is a very important player for Bayern. It is bad for Bayern and for him that he will be absent, I am sure, for at least a few months."
