The FBI's investigation into the president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio Tapia, and the institution's leaders has brought new developments. According to reports in American and Argentine media, during the investigation, four apartments purchased by Javier Faroni and his wife Erika Gillet, with a total value of about 11 million dollars, were discovered.
The suspicion of the US federal authorities is that these investments in real estate may be linked to the funds of about 300 million dollars, which are suspected to have disappeared from the coffers of Argentine football. According to investigators, part of this money may have been transferred to the United States through the company TourProdEnter LLC, owned by Faroni.
The news was published by the American newspaper Miami Herald and the Argentine daily El Clarín, while La Nación had previously reported on the FBI's investigations into some of the AFA's top executives, including Claudio Tapia and the federation's treasurer, Pablo Tovigino.
According to reports, Tovigino had secured a legal injunction to prevent journalist Nikolas Picci from publishing details about the case, after the latter had reported on the investigations.
The FBI operation is still ongoing and is expected to bring further developments in the coming weeks, as US authorities continue to investigate financial movements and suspicious transactions.
