Barcelona's 2-1 defeat to PSG in the Champions League surprised the Spanish press, which acknowledged the superiority of the European champions despite numerous shortcomings.
“ A reality check ,” wrote “Marca,” highlighting how the Blaugrana’s enthusiasm was destroyed by the Parisians’ consistency: “ It wasn’t a bad match for Barça, but Luis Enrique’s team put them in control, dampening the optimism that was circulating in Barcelona. It’s even more painful considering that PSG didn’t have their best team on the field .”
Along the same lines, Mundo Deportivo called it “a cruel defeat”, the Catalans seeing a crucial opportunity to compete with the reigning champions slip away, leaving them feeling like they had taken a step back in major European competitions. Another was more scathing, describing the match as “a masterclass for PSG”.
According to the Madrid-based newspaper, the physical strength and stamina of the French team overcame a Barca side that was unable to maintain their pace for more than an hour: " A brilliant performance, but the Blaugrana had been suffering for some time ."
