Serbia and Albania will face off on October 11 in Leskovac for the World Cup qualifying Group K. 11 years after the acts of violence by Serbian hooligans (October 14, 2014) against Albanian footballers in Belgrade, the red and blacks return with memories.
Fears of a repeat of the violence led the Serbian Football Federation to move the match from Belgrade to Leskovac, while FIFA punished the Serbs and the stadium will be limited to a maximum of 6,500 Serbian fans. Due to an agreement between the ASF and the Serbian Football Federation, there will be no opposing fans in the matches between them, at least unofficially.
Elseid Hysaj, the only 'survivor' of the Belgrade evening
If we take a look at the latest list that Silvinjo compiled a little over a month ago, it is striking that the only footballer who is still part of the national team and who experienced the violence of Serbian hooligans on the field 11 years ago is Elseid Hysaj.
The Lazio defender was the starter in those 42 minutes of play, as he will return to Serbia again, but in a different stadium and city. If Silvinjo does not surprise and does not bring back goalkeeper Etrit Berisha to the team, only Hysaj will continue to be able to represent the team 11 years after October 14, 2014.
