
Albanian wrestler Chermen Valiev was declared European champion in the 74kg freestyle weight category this afternoon, at the European Championships taking place in Bratislava, Slovakia.
In the final against Russian Zaurbek Sidakov, the red-and-black wrestler won 4-2 after a balanced and emotional challenge. Everything was even decided after the review of the footage, which gave the Albanian wrestler success.
An excellent result for Valiev, the athlete who gave Albania its first Olympic medal last year in Paris. This time, he goes all the way, taking the gold medal, another extraordinary result for him and Albanian wrestling.
In previous challenges at this European Championship, Valiev initially won 10-0 against Bulgarian Ramazan Ramazanov (quarterfinals), qualifying for the semifinals, where he won 6-0 against Azerbaijani Aghanazar Novruzov.
