Carabao Cup final/ Teacher defeats student, City snatches trophy from Arsenal

Two second-half goals from Nico O'Reilly gave Manchester City a convincing 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the 2026 Carabao Cup final, with the Cityzens lifting their ninth trophy in the competition. The match was played at the neutral Wembley Stadium, with Arsenal playing in their first final in eight years in the competition.

Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka created early chances, but Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford made a series of excellent saves to keep the goal clean. Manchester City gradually took control of the ball in the first half, with Antoine Semenyo shining on the wing, but shots remained uncontested.

In the second half, City's pressure increased. Jérémy Doku forced Kepa Arrizabalaga into a foul, but the Spanish goalkeeper was only booked for holding. In the 60th minute, Rayan Cherki sent in a precise cross that Kepa failed to fully handle, allowing Nico O'Reilly to head into an empty net from close range.

Just four minutes later, in the 64th minute, O'Reilly again appeared in the right place, after a cross from Matheus Nunes, and with a header from the back post sent the ball into the net for 2-0, sealing the victory.

Arsenal tried to respond with substitutions such as Noni Madueke and Riccardo Calafiori, the latter hitting the post. Gabriel had a chance with a header that hit the crossbar, but City held firm until the end.

The win gives Pep Guardiola his 19th trophy as Manchester City manager, extending their dominance in the Carabao Cup. Meanwhile, Arsenal remain in the hunt for their first trophy since 2020.
