The Albanian Football Federation has set some new rules on how to gather players into national age teams.
According to the Albanian Football Association, these guidelines are intended to increase the representation of players from the domestic league and provide more opportunities for talents developing in Albania. But the absurdity lies in the fact that the football body forces coaches to take only 7 names from the domestic league to the U-21 Hopes, the team that should supply the A National Team. So if you are not standing out in Albania at the age of 13, it is advisable to transfer abroad to be in the eyes of the Albanian Football Association.
For the women's national teams:
U-19 (2007-2008): 8 players from abroad, 12 from the domestic championship (around 60%).
U-17 (2009): 7 players from abroad, 13 from the domestic championship (about 65%).
U-16 (2010): 6 players from abroad, 14 from the domestic championship (around 70%).
U-15 (2011): 5 players from abroad, 15 from the domestic championship (around 75%).
U-14 (2012): 4 players from abroad, 16 from the domestic championship (about 80%).
For the boys' national teams:
U-21 (2004-2005): 16 players from abroad, 7 from the domestic championship (around 30%).
U-19 (2007-2008): 14 players from abroad, 6 from the domestic championship (about 33%).
U-17 (2009): 11 players from abroad, 9 from the domestic championship (about 45%).
U-16 (2010): 8 players from abroad, 12 from the domestic championship (about 60%).
U-15 (2011): 6 players from abroad, 14 from the domestic championship (around 70%).
U-14 (2012): 5 players from abroad, 15 from the domestic championship (around 75%).
" However, the FSHF Technical Directorate emphasizes that the final selection of players always remains in its decision-making, taking into account the needs of the team and the performance of each player.
"This decision aims to create a sustainable balance between the development of the domestic championship and the use of Albanian talents playing in foreign championships, guaranteeing continuous progress in all age groups ," the AFF announced.
Such a decision seems to close the doors for young talents who want a jersey with the National team, as to do so they have to go through the diaspora once.
