French football is in mourning after the passing of Jean-Pierre Escalettes, former president of the French Football Federation (FFF), who passed away at the age of 90.
The news was confirmed by the French Football Federation itself through an official statement, which appreciated his long and dedicated contribution to the sport.
According to the FFF statement, Escalettes was considered a respected and beloved figure in French football, who dedicated his entire life to the sport. He began his journey as a footballer, then continued as a coach and club director, reaching the top of the highest football institution in France.
Jean-Pierre Escalettes led the federation from 2005 to 2010, a time marked by several important events for French football. Highlights of his tenure include France's defeat in the 2006 World Cup final to Italy, as well as securing the right to host the 2016 European Championship, a decision made in 2010.
However, the end of his term was marked by disappointing results, notably France's elimination in the group stage of the 2010 World Cup, a situation that led to his resignation as president.
