The Netherlands and England will meet on Wednesday evening in the second semi-final of the European Championship.

UEFA has revealed that the referee who will administer justice was the same one who refereed the Italy-Albania match. It is about the German Felix Zvajer.

The 43-year-old was also the signal-caller in the 1/16 match of the Netherlands against Romania, which the "tulips" won 3-0.

Zvajer was embroiled in a match-fixing scandal in 2005, when he accepted a 300-euro bribe from another referee. After his guilt was confirmed, the German was banned from refereeing for six months.

In 2021, Jude Bellingham was fined €40,000 by the German Football Association for a comment he made after the Borussia Dortmund-Bayern Munich match about Zvajer's open accusation of the 2005 affair, commenting that "you can't put a such a referee, involved in manipulation, to officiate the biggest match in Germany".

In the 2021 match, the reason for the anger of Belingham, but also of Dortmund, was the fact that Zvajer did not give a penalty in favor of the Reds, while a little later he awarded a penalty for Bayern, for the hand touch by Mat Humels.

Now the German referee has returned to the center of attention and his definition is commented negatively in England.

Because of all this confusion, he decided to take a break and think about his future. Two months later he announced that he would continue his career as a referee.
