Former Albania striker Hamdi Salihi, in a conversation with Trevisa Tufa on Sport News on News 24, spoke about the opportunities the national team has to realize its dream.
Salihi, tell me a little bit, is the World Cup atmosphere really felt in America? Trump has been heavily involved, there is talk that hotel prices have increased significantly, etc., is that really the case?
To be honest, there is a lot of interest. Even before the draw, there was a lot of interest from people and businesses that are not related to sports. I believe that it will be an extraordinary event, for these big events America has the right capacities.
And you, Salihi, have you made any preparations, will you host Albania in America? How do you feel?
It would be the greatest pleasure. I have a lot of confidence. In recent years we have played and come close, we deserve to try such a competition once. For all of us it would be something great.
Tell me honestly, did you really think we could reach the play-off stage, did you believe at the beginning that we could get to this point?
I believed it, because from the beginning we had a team with which we would share this place. I was convinced because England has the highest quality. These are teams that we are still far from competing against these teams. We had the fight with Serbia, the latter seeing that they are no longer a team, I believed it. We have entered a phase that I have confidence in again.
From Serbia to the European Championship, to Serbia to the World Cup, apparently we are lucky Salihi, how did you experience the victory over them this time?
It's a good omen. I've mentioned something like that in interviews too, it's a team that paves the way for us to big competitions. I experienced a game played with intelligence and very carefully. It was a deserved victory. We got what we deserved and it wasn't a surprise to me.
You have scored spectacular goals in your career, but I want to comment on Manaj's goal in Leskovs, I believe it is the most important goal in recent years for the national team.
Goals become even more beautiful, seeing the moment and the importance. A goal like that in a friendly match or against Andorra, is not commented on that much. The moment when it happened, adds charm and beauty. Seeing the moment Manaj was going through, all things complete what is called a wonderful goal.

Ajo që shfaqim në fushën e lojës ka të bëjmë me atë momentin në të cilin ndodhemi. Shpresoj që të mos kemi dëmtime dhe të jemi në formë. Të gjitha këto komponentë bashkohen bashkë. Ne jemi ekip i vogël dhe na duhen shumë gjëra të vogla të bashkohen dhe të na ndihmojnë. Të gjithë bashkë të jemi në një maksimum tonin, pasi vetëm kështu mund të arrijnë diçka të madhe.
Mqs jemi te marsi, të pëlqeu shorti Salihi, në fazën gjysmëfinale përballemi me Poloninë?
Ishin të gjitha njësoj, kushdo që të binte nga rivalët, do ishte njëlloj. Nuk dija kujt t’ia vendosja gishtin. Gjithë ne që ndjekim futbollin, jemi duke pritur marsin dhe jemi 50/50 çfarë do ndodhi. Jemi në një fazë me ekipe që mund t’i luajmë. Janë kundërshtarë të nivelit tonë.
Në fazën finale, gjithnjë nëse kalojmë Polonisë, do të përballemi me fituesin Ukrainë-Suedi, kë do preferoje Salihi?

Another player who is in fantastic form is Ernest Muçi, Salihi is back in top form, you know him from close quarters, could Muçi be another weapon?
Muçi has an Olympic calm in these difficult situations that he goes through with the clubs. I am always amazed, he brings these things out of his arsenal. He could give much more with the national team in this period. Everyone needs the goals and qualities that he has. I have never questioned his quality, I hope he continues.
Finally, Salihi, in your opinion, in your perception, will the Sylvinho-FSHF collaboration continue even after the play-off matches?
I agree with what you said, the evaluation of coaches should not be based on specific episodes or matches. I am 100% convinced that he has done well. I hope that everyone's demands and interests match. There are two parties negotiating and each has its own interests. I say that he should continue the work he has done.
