Kosovo played its first two qualifying matches for next year's World Cup in September, where they were defeated by Switzerland and then managed to win convincingly against Sweden.
But things seem to be going badly and there has been a rift with coach Franko Foda. Something like this has been said publicly by striker Ermir Sahiti, who plays for Hamburg in the German Bundesliga. In an interview given to German media, Sahiti said that he received an invitation from Kosovo but refused it, rejecting Foda's statements that he had decided not to invite him for personal reasons.
" The truth is that I was invited, but it was my decision not to travel to Kosovo. There are no problems between me and my teammates in the national team, we are all friends. Some players are in the starting lineup for Kosovo even though they have barely played for their clubs for months. I play for Hamburg SV, a big club, and I feel good, but recently I have been on the bench in international matches.
"This is not a problem if it is for sporting reasons. But if I deserve it, I want to play. That is why I told the director that I would not go this time, " said Sahiti, whose statement is expected to bring strong reactions in Kosovo. We recall that the 26-year-old striker has previously been active with Albania U-21, but the lack of minutes for the Rossoneri, made him leave to represent Kosovo, where he is not doing well.
