Marash Kumbulla gave a long interview to "Il Messaggero", where he talked about everything in his career. The red and black defender stopped at the beginning of his career in Italy, at the national team as well as the transition from Verona to Rome, where he has Mourinho, whom he considers as the person who raised him.
Despite the fact that you were born in Italy and grew up in our country, you chose to play for Albania. Can you explain this choice?
Since I was 15 years old, Albania has always wanted me. I started with their youth team, I never had contact with Italy until I made my debut in Serie A. When they asked me, it was too late. Among other things, I feel Albanian, I wanted to play with Albania, my family and my roots are there.
You grew up in Peschiera, 15 kilometers away is Desenzano, which welcomed the Olympic champion Jacobs. Have you ever had a chance to meet and get to know each other?
Yes, but the curiosity is that we met in Rome. Strange, isn't it?
Does the victory of the League Conference in Tirana represent the peak of your career at Roma?
Of course, for me it was the first trophy in my career. The victory in my country was even more beautiful.

Yeah, that was one heck of a match. Lots of bad luck, episodes that didn't go our way, other things that didn't go well. Now we have to start again, but if we have to, let's start again from Tirana, from the good times, not from the disappointments.

Your father came to Italy 25 years ago, seeking and finding a better future for himself and his family. A few days ago, Prime Minister Rama mocked the fact that his country has become a favorite destination for Italians fleeing expensive vacations, comparing the exodus of immigrants to the counter-exodus of tourists. As an Albanian, what effect does it have on you?
I have known this for at least 5-6 years. High prices have made many Italians choose my country as a tourist destination. And they do well, because in terms of sea level and scenic beauty, we have nothing to envy anyone. With the addition that the prices are reasonable.
Have you had the perception of prejudice against you in Italy over the years?
Fortunately no. I have always had many friends, at school, on the football fields. Then I speak of myself, perhaps it has happened to one of my countrymen.
Returning to football, after a great year at Verona, has your rise slowed down a bit?
I have not been very lucky, as confirmed by the latest injury. I had some difficulties, but thanks to them I have improved and they have made me stronger in character.
