Albanian footballer Migjen Basha's brother, Vullneti, who is currently the sports director of the Polish club, Wisła Kraków, has commented on the play-off draw, where Albania will play Poland away. He is currently attending a course in Tirana to become a coach.
" We have a strong national team and I believe we have a chance not only in the match against Poland, but also to qualify for the World Cup. Every match is difficult. I don't see how we could have drawn someone better or maybe someone easier. Everyone in the qualifying stage has a clear goal, to qualify for the World Cup. And it doesn't matter who the opponent is, you just have to win ."
The 35-year-old has played once for the Albanian national team (in 2013). He is familiar with Polish football, having been a player for Wisla before becoming sporting director. He has made 82 appearances in the Ekstraklasa.
" Poland, of course, also has its strengths, both individually and as a team. They are really strong, with players who can make the difference at any moment. I know we have a difficult match ahead of us, but at this stage, it is impossible to say that there is an easy match ," stressed Basha.
Basha says Albania is capable of qualifying for next year's World Cup...
" I don't think our national team is weaker than it was a few weeks or months ago. It's still the same team, the same coach. It's a strong team and I believe it has a chance not only against Poland, but also to qualify for the World Cup ," Basha said.
Albania finished second in their group, one point ahead of Serbia. First place was simply impossible to win. England cruised through the qualifying round, winning all eight of their matches and conceding no goals…
" We had a very difficult group. Please note that we won in Serbia, something that few achieve. This shows that Albania is capable of fighting for qualification. I am happy because it will be a good match. Of course, as an Albanian, I am keeping my fingers crossed for our team. We want to advance ," the 35-year-old stressed.
