Serbia has a real test in Leskovac where it has decided to host Albania. The match, which is valid for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, should pass without incident, as the president of the Serbian Federation himself has said.
Dragan Dzajic warns that a repeat of the events of 2014 would translate into disaster. The Serbian national team would risk expulsion, not playing for a long period of time.
" There's no need to waste words, no one needs to talk to anyone. We're all aware and we know how much that match means in this situation. A very important match for us. I think that's clear to everyone.
You've known me for so many years. Some things you'll never hear from me. Let me put it this way, I want to win. It won't be easy to achieve, but victory is something to be expected.
Injuries are an integral part of football. Such things happen. There is no need to mourn our fate now. That is how we are. For me, a bigger problem than injuries is the limited playing time of our footballers in foreign clubs. Again, I do not doubt them, I know that each of the boys will give their best on Saturday, so that Serbia can win. In the same way, coach Dragan Stojkovic is following everything and I believe that he will bring out the best team. These will be the players who will be able to respond to all the tasks.
A more compact Albania? I don't like the idea. It's good when you have a strong personality in the team. A player who can decide the game with a move or inspiration. Thank God, we have them. Again, we can't rely on just one individual, we need a strong group. I believe in our boys, I believe in the team. They are aware of everything and I know they will do everything to make the nation happy.
Albanians are good, whatever one thinks about them. They are a strong team. In a sporting sense, no one should underestimate them at any time. They have had good results in recent years, good footballers. Another thing, their representation is very good, let's admit it .
The coach? We talk often. We hear from each other regularly. In the last weeks and days we talked about who will come and how big the problems are due to injuries. Ask me, does the selector have my support? Of course he does. Completely and maximally. How else?! I am the president and of course I am with my coach. I believe in him. And in our boys. I believe that with the footballers he can bring an important victory to Serbia.
The events of 2014? A man cannot swear. We have done everything and are trying to prevent something like this from happening again. We take it very seriously. It would be a disaster if it happened again. I think we would be excluded from European football for a long period of time. That is precisely why we chose Leskovci and reduced the capacity of the stadium. This is an extraordinary situation for us.
"I repeat, we must prevent anything ugly from happening during the match. I hope that everyone who comes to the match will be understanding. We Serbs must put aside all disagreements. Let's cheer for Serbia because we only have this national team ," the president of the Serbian Football Federation told "Kurir".
